It's Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month, and time to introduce our new member of the team, Amanda Boswell! Amanda is a qualified registered veterinary nurse, having gained her BSc (Hons) in Veterinary Health Studies in 2010 and her Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing Science in 2014. Overall, Amanda has 12 years of nursing experience, 2 years of which she was working for an RSPCA equine practice, along with gaining experience at Hartpury College Equine Therapy Centre. For the past 3 years she has been working in a small animal referral hospital which has been challenging and hugely rewarding.
Amanda says that working in referral has been the pinnacle of her career so far. She has gained invaluable knowledge and skills to provide the highest level of nursing care to critically ill patients, and building strong relationships with their owners. She has been working within all areas of the referral hospital which included inpatient care, monitoring of anaesthetics, scrubbing in for surgical procedures, chemotherapy clinics and imaging procedures.
Whilst working in referral Amanda was chosen to complete the training to run the CT and MRI scanner which she really enjoyed being a part of.
In her spare time, Amanda likes to spend as much time outdoors as possible! She has previously competed horses to BE100 Level and still rides her ex-eventer, Abbie, when she can (when she can spare her away from her mum’s rescue Shetland ponies, Bumble and Fern!). Amanda also take full advantage of the coastal paths along which she loves running with her working cocker, Bailey. She is currently training for an ultramarathon along the Jurassic coast and is also a keen team sports player, playing hockey and netball.
